NATCO's Sanders Attends Forum on Future of Intelligent Network Phone Services
Dr. Steven G. Sanders, president and general manager of NATCO, attended
the IN-IP World Forum recently at Orlando, Fla. The engineering conference
dealt with technological changes affecting enhanced telephone features,
such as Caller ID and many others. These services are known as intelligent
network features. NATCO customers have had intelligent network services
since 1993 through NATCO's Northern Telecom DMS-100 Switch.
"The future IN network architecture will unleash the creativity of
programmers allowing new services to be created at a reasonable price
point," according to Dr. Sanders. "We will offer these services
when the price becomes reasonable in our market," he said. He anticipated
that the process of building and overlaying his company's intelligent
network may start within the next two years, although NATCO has not set
a time line yet.
Topics of special interest to the NATCO president included Softswitch
architectures and media gateways, plus the economic outlook for the industry.
"The evolution of the TDM (time division multi-plexing) network,
into an Internet protocol will continue in spite of the present economic
slowdown in the communications business sector," he said. The sponsor
of the forum was the International Engineering Consortium.
NATCO is a family-owned, independent telephone company at Flippin serving
a 658 square-mile territory in Marion and Boone counties. NATCO Technologies,
a subsidiary, provides Internet services to residents throughout the Twin
Lakes area, including Mountain Home, Yellville, and Harrison. The companies
may be contacted toll-free at 1-800-775-6682.
